SPREYTON is one of the areas most picturesque villages situated some 4 miles from Bow and 4 miles from Whiddon Down and access to the A30 dual carriageway to Exeter and Okehampton. The village is best known for its famous old inn, The Tom Cobley Tavern. It has a garage, primary school and historic parish church.
BOW is a parish and village on the River Yeo approximately 8 miles from Crediton, on the road to Okehampton. A unique feature of the village is the very high raised pavement running down one side of the main street. There is an inn, an excellent new primary school, village hall and a shop.
DIRECTIONS FROM CREDITON/EXETER
From Exeter take the A377 from the north of the city for about 7 miles to Crediton. From Crediton take the A377 road in a north westerly direction for about 4 miles until arriving in Copplestone. Fork left as signed to Okehampton/Bow, and follow this road until arriving in Bow. At the centre of the village, turn left as signed Spreyton, and follow this road, leaving the village, for about a mile until arriving at a railway bridge. Go under the bridge and immediately after fork left. Go up the hill and Treedown Farm will be seen on the right at the top of the hill.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE FROM EXETER VIA WHIDDON DOWN & SPREYTON
From Exeter take the main A30 dual carriageway for about 14 miles, and turn off as signed to Whiddon Down and Spreyon. Proceed into Whiddon Down, and turn right in the centre of the village (opposite the pub) as signed to Winkleigh/Torrington/Spreyton. Stay on this road, and pass over the dual carriageway bridge. Just the other side of the bridge turn left as signed to Spreyton. Continue along the lane until arriving in Spreyon. At Spreyton Cross (just past the phone box) continue along the lane as signed to Bow. Follow this lane for just under a mile, and turn right as signed Hillerton. Follow the lane until arriving at Hillerton Cross, whereupon turn left as signed Bow. Follow the lane for about half a mile and the entrance to Treedown Farm will be seen on the left.
