DESCRIPTION Lane End Cottage is a beautiful detached traditional Devon thatched cottage located in a most idyllic and tranquil location in the heart of the countryside, having no near neighbours and being surrounded by magnificent unspoilt farmland and rolling hills. The cottage has recently undergone a major programme of restoration and improvement works, and now offers absolutely first class 4 double bedroomed accommodation full of character features and high quality fittings, including exposed beams, exposed roof timbers, inglenook fireplaces, and vaulted ceilings, etc.
Originally, the property was in fact 2 cottages, and is currently laid out with this still very much in mind. There are 5 reception rooms and 2 kitchens all of which give much flexibility in their possible usage, and the property could easily be occupied by 2 families, or used for bed & breakfast, for example. There are high quality fittings (which include a luxury bath/shower room, 2 en-suites, and a farmhouse style kitchen), and the excellent workmanship is very much evident throughout, although with much of the original charm and character of the property still remains.
The cottage stands in a lovely garden with spacious parking areas, lawns, and well stocked flowerbeds. Located directly across the very quiet country lane is a paddock which we believe extends to about 1 acre and has a range of outbuildings including a Nissan hut, summer house, and poultry shed with run. The paddock enjoys panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
Location
The cottage is idyllically located about 2.5 miles west of the large village of Winkleigh, which has many period cottages, an attractive village square with shops including a butchers, post office and inns. There is also a primary school, a village hall and an ancient church. The village lies in a quiet location just off the Crediton / Torrington road with the A30 trunk road at Whiddon Down reached via the newly developed North Tawton road which gives access to Exeter and the M5.
About 1.25 miles to the west of Lane End Cottage lies the small pretty village of Iddesleigh, which has an ancient church, scattering of period houses, and a highly regarded village Inn, The Duke of York, which is renowned in the area for its fine food and ales.
